After bouncing around Premier Inns for weeks, looking for work, we decided to take some time out and go off the grid. We rented a cottage way up in Snowdonia in North Wales.
It was up a narrow winding track miles and miles from the nearest civilisation. With a mountain stream running through it the only electricity ran off a petrol generator and it had an old fashioned AGA oil stove.
The isolation was inspiring, walking outside at night into total blackness, only the stars and wind whistling around. We soon slipped into rising with the dawn, and going to bed with the dusk. It was winter and we could only hope to get snowed in. The previous winter one family had been snowed in there for 4 days. We could only hope!
